There's serious debate about this.

I lean ever farther to the opinion that science and faith cannot be
reconciled - at least not completely.  One or the other needs to be
compromised: either faith needs to inhabit only the gaps in science or
science needs to compromise it's methods to allow for the supernatural.

I would say that an individual might be able to balance this, but as
disciplines I'm not so sure.  If you define you're your faith then you can
make it fit and container I suppose.

At a minimum I doubt that any religion, specifically any religion that makes
naturalistic claims, can be reconciled.  In this case science may not be out
to disprove faith, but often does.

How does science and faith reconcile when one claims with certainty that the
Earth is millions of years old and the other says with certainty that the
earth is not more than 6,000 years old?
