How is the United States founded on religious principles?

I would still make the argument that the country was founded on principles
shared by religion, not on religious principles.

Are there any fundamental principles specific to religion in the
foundational definition of our country?

I would agree that our country was founded with a deep respect for religion
(all religions) but was not specifically inspired by it. On the contrary I
think that respect was a fundamental reason to enforce the separation of
religion and government.

What is? Honestly, as dear to my heart as this stuff is I'd never heard of
this particular historical event. I really have no way to judge it. Are
you challenging the history as the article relayed it?
