Be careful. The digital phone service is not all it's cracked up to be. In
the summer and fall of '06 I was working for Charter Cable doing installs
and repairs. We had a lot of customers who wanted us to remove the Charter
phone devices because they said they sucked, that they never worked right
blah blah blah. And after doing a lot of testing to see if the customer was
right, in most of the cases the device never worked like it was supposed to.
There are a lot of reasons for this though, bad signal, customer has old
phone lines running around the house to name a couple. Now I can say that
typically, if you have a strong signal - the phone modem needs to have
priority over all devices, and if you have a lot of rooms that are going to
have set top boxes, you might have issues - then it should work fine. I know
that if I ever am at a place where I can have cable internet, then that is
all I am going to use it for. I will never give up my Dish Network unless
there is absolutely no way I can get a clear southern exposure, and after
playing around with Vonage and having one of the worst VOIP experiences in
my life, I will lever give up my land line. I refuse to use VOIP ever.

When my DSL contract runs up in April I'm going to seriously
investigate switching back to cable with the digital phone service.
