This in itself isn't terrible.  It's good to look at things critically 
and be able to understand the entire system well enough to reinvent it.  
Self control paired with this ability however, isn't always easy to 
find.  Being satisfied in knowing you can reinvent the wheel is very 
different than insisting that it must be reinvented.

Reinventing the wheel is what the hobby projects are for.  I have a 
project at home I've rewritten about 8 times now and only two of those 
versions have ever seen the light of day.  It's a great way to break in 
a new idea or skill though...
