The one I heard about (a friend of a friend story) was a high speed paper feeder. (My father's a machinist specializing in printing equipment and I worked building maintenance several summers.) The paper feeders take rolls of paper averaging about 2 tons. They run at something like 200 feet per second. Clamp trucks bring the rolls in and hang them on hydraulic racks. Workers (splicers) connect the rolls of paper together on the fly and at speed. The machines we had had an audible alarm if they "saw" something past a certain point then shut down automatically if it went further. When we work near them you hear all sorts of stories.
