G: We *really* need to talk about what you define as a "religious nut"
Otherwise, I'm not happy with *any* of the republican candidates that are "left in". Here's why: McCain is too willing to work with the other side when his own party held the majority in both houses. He claims to be "conservative" to some audiences and "progressive" to others. He sponsored Campaign Finance Reform (and thereby effecting the free speech of citizens), comprehensive immigration reform (granting amnesty to illegal aliens) and was a member of the Keating Five (the group of senators that tried to negatively influence the results of an investigation into the S&L faiures of the early 1980's). I thank him for his service in our military but not his service to our country. The last time he led anyone was as a naval officer, which he retired from to go into politics in 1980. Romney is a candidate with a business past and executive experience. He's got a good record of fiscal control in Mass. but that gets outweighed in my mind by the fact that he signed a bill forcing every resident to buy health insurance and the fact that effective tax rates rose under his leadership. Add to that the fact that he is anti-gun and pro "don't ask don't tell." Huckabee is another Arkansas governor from Hope. He is a Southern Baptist preacher, which is part of my own religious background. That doesn't necessarily add any comfort factor when it comes to his policies though. His actions and statements mark him as an "anti-racist". His stances fall very much in line with his beliefs - help the poor, provide insurance for children in households below the poverty line and let churches provide unfunded aid where possible. That said, he has also pushed to allow for in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. He does have executive experience, almost exclusively political. I know this probably misses things. Out of the three, I have to say I'm going to vote Huckabee in the primary unless someone can give me a really good reason not do. Regardless, I'm going to vote Republican at the election... but we're not there yet.
