When I got mine for x-mas, I really thought about returning it. Instead, I went
online and read some reviews and read one comparing the specs and it was night and
day. From a hardware standpoint, xbox is more advanced than PS2 as it should be.
It's a newer system. I didn't have a dvd player yet and that was appealing about the
PS2, but when I found out that I could buy the dvd attachment for the xbox under $30,
that wasn't an issue anymore. Especially considering that 8Mb memory cards for PS2
run $50, having an 8 GB HD was pretty appealing. Xbox also has four controller ports
as opposed to PS2's two. Not sure how much the attachments go for but I was turned
off by the hassle of it all. I play with my nephews a few times a week and it's nice
having the other ports.

I've played on both and both are excellent systems and I'm pretty sure that the
competition will make the next PS3 a kick ass system. I think that the quality of
Halo is only the beginning. Once developers get more accustomed to the hardware, they
will make better and better games. It really does boil down to preference. Sony has
done an excellent job building quality gaming platforms and will continue to do so.
This is the first gaming console that I've had since I had a PS1 back in 96 and that
got stolen. Since then I've played strictly PC games and still love to play games on
my PC. Now my PC is out of date and I need to follow in Howard's footsteps and buy a
new system. Gotta but a stupid house first....stupid house :-)

Nick, I use a lot of MS products and I totally see where you're coming from. That was
a concern that I had when deciding whether or not to return it. But so far I've had a
good experience with it and hope that it continues. A year or so from now when Halo 2
comes out for the Xbox2 and I can't play it on my Xbox, I'll welcome an "I told you
so!" from you!

Here's another reason not to buy one: I received one for Christmas, only to
have to return it three weeks later when the hard drive died. I call MS,
they sent me a box, I sent it away and got it back in February. I plugged it
in, eager to get back onto Halo, and the drive died again.

The XBOX is not a good invention, I will stick with my PS2.

  > yeah, and you need an add on to play DVD's on the xbox!?!

i already have a dvd player. i bought the xbox to play games. (plus from
what i have read the ps2 dvd playback is not that high quality, although
i haven't tested this first hand).

well, i can already play games online without MSN. plus, if they make it
easy to find and play games online, then i don't care who does it. if
they don't then i will either find games online myself, or just not play
online. at least i have the option.

I have absolutely NO trust in MS.

well, every console maker does that. this isn't something unique to
  microsoft.

of course, i could say the exact same thing for the xbox. plus, since
the xbox starts at a higher hardware level, and from what i have read is
easier to program for, it would seem that ultimately you could do more
easier and faster with the xbox (development wise). (i.e. sure
developers are going to continue to push the ps2, but at the same time
developers are going to also be pushing the xbox).

i'm not anti ps2. i love my ps2. i just think that the xbox has a lot
more potential, and i am excited abot that.
