Don't put up flyers asking "Who owns this cat?" because often there are people who claim to be its owner but who are just looking for a cat to:
a) sell for cash to a medical supply company (kill, preserve, sell to university biology departments), b) torture by putting in a bag and beating to death for fun, kicking around for fun, or dousing with gasoline and lighting on fire (very popular these days), or c) use as training bait for pit bulls. It's a very sick world out there -- especially for black cats. Every Halloween for a few years we would see them strewn along the main street leading into our neighborhood, beaten and burned and crushed to death. It was heart breaking. Be a mensch. Lovingly raise it yourself.
