Yes, we need energy, so we consume it. If we suddenly needed less energy, we would suddenly consume less. Alternative processes that reduce our consumption are NOT just pipe dreams, and it's not some crazy unnatural effector introduced into the free market...it is a natural component variable of consumerism. If consumption "is what it is", how come we don't have a big supply of Beta Max VCR's these days?
