That's just not true! I know my economics 101.....consumption is NOT what it
is. Consumption changes, it rises and falls, it is one of the key natural
variables of the free market dynamic.

Yes, we need energy, so we consume it. If we suddenly needed less energy, we
would suddenly consume less. Alternative processes that reduce our
consumption are NOT just pipe dreams, and it's not some crazy unnatural
effector introduced into the free market...it is a natural component
variable of consumerism.

If consumption "is what it is", how come we don't have a big supply of Beta
Max VCR's these days?

Using hybrids to try to limit consumption (which is a pipe dream, but

Is this what people mean when they talk about supply side economics? If you
truly buy into the free market dynamic, you cannot fully account for one
while fully discounting the other.

There is only 1 solution to that problem: figure out a way to use a

Depends...what problem are you talking about? High oil prices? Environment?
Energy dependence? WE seem to be combining a host of issues here...

Hybrids are a fad and a distraction. "energy conservation" is like

Hybrids might very well be a fad....but i still wholly reject your critique
on conservation....

Some is. If you need 4 light bulbs to properly light your living room, and
you are getting by with just using 2 and getting used to the dark...that's
pointless conservation.

If, however, you develop/purchase 4 light bulbs that use half as much
energy.....THAT is meaningful conservation.

So I'm doing my part to burn as much gas as possible. 14mpg baby! W00T!

Atta boy...how 'bout a Fresca?
