LOL, that was a good one.

I don't want to spend infinite money on promoting democracy, but I am
concerned about what is happening in certain parts of the world. In the
Middle East and throughout the Muslim world, there are crazy people spending
big money to promote an ideology of hate that specifically rejects
everything liberal democracies stand for. We have to offer an alternative
path for those societies or we risk facing an enemy far larger and stronger
than we face today, one armed with WMD and a messianic sense of purpose
about their jihad against the West. Fighting the war we have now is the
cheap alternative to fighting that war down the road. And we are going to be
fighting them down the road, make no mistake.

As far as the economy goes, I am far gloomier about our long-term budget
issues with Social Security and Medicare. As you have noted in the past,
those programs are going to grow and eat more of our tax dollars until there
is nothing left for anything else. Debating the cost of the war is fine, but
debating it while ignoring the long-term threat to the entire economy is
totally irresponsible. That's why I see the current Democratic position of
bashing the cost of war as just another political tactic. Economics seems to
be something Democrats use as a political tool, never a pursuit in its own
right.
