An expanded GI Bill is not welfare, it's delayed compensation for a
job done and services delivered. And it also has the benefit of
encouraging education.

A serviceperson doesn't HAVE to go to college and when they don't the
taxpayer saves the compensation. When they do we get an educated
service minded citizen in return.

So, to sum up, the GI Bill is compensation, but it's "gated": you only
get it if you go to college. Great way to spend tax payer money in my
opinion.
