Pretty shocking ...

Although I think the media is just a symptom - your problem is with
people.  They are the ones that drove "the media" from news to
entertainment.

Ever seen the movie Network?  It started happening in the 70s and that
movie was the canary in the coal mine.

Once people started watching info-tainment rather than news, it was a
short leap to the realization the sensationalism sells.  This then
spawed people like Rush Limbaugh who essentially sell fictionalized
news - but only where it's able to be easily sensationalized.

This extends to celebrity news as well.  Seen the South Park where the
kids learn that Britney Spears must die as a sacrifice for The
Harvest?  The spin is that instead of out right killing her, we now do
it with paparazzi.

Anyway, the point is, if people wanted pure news that's what "the
media" would deliver, but they don't.

Which is why shows like The News Hour aren't very popular.  Nobody
wants objective journalism.

It's not the media, it's the people that buy the media.
