Last I heard he was still in hiding for his life but he's a poor example as
he did a bit more than renounce Islam.

I can point to almost daily articles about how apostates are deprived of
their rights (like their children, freedom, etc.) in 'moderate' Muslim
countries and even in those countries stories come up of the killing of
apostates. Foe example:

Jordan: Court annuls Christian convert's marriage
http://www.compassdirect.org/en/display.php?page=news&lang=en&length=long&idelement=5420

"When Abbad went to the police station the same day to file a complaint he
found his father there, demanding custody of Abbad's son and 11-year-old
daughter."

Disclaimer to avoid sidetracks and fights about what I've been saying:
Please note that I'm talking about a single issue here which is apostates
from Islam and how it interacts with Obama.
Not Islam in general.
Not Islam as accepted by 'them'.
Not who 'them' is
Not Islam's cultural differences from ours
Not our need to accept other people's cultures
Not about Bush
Not about Republicans
Not about what Obama's actual religion is (or even was)
