Yeah, I know. I was having this discussion on a different list with someone who's views were pretty much in line with yours. I cannot disagree with your emotion, because I share it as well. I too know several people who suffered at the hands of these monsters when they were children, and I see the awful affect it had on those people.
There can be no punishment that will "repay" the hurt these people have inflicted....and our system is not constructed to do so. All we can do is lock these people away for life to ensure that they can never do it to someone else...and ensure they lead the trite and meaningless life they deserve. I'm glad the Supreme Court recognized this, even if just barely (5-4 decision, shows just how strong the emotions that are stirred by these crimes).
