OK... my hammer. my power drill. Any of my personal possessions that could conceivably do harm to others. While I grasp the concept of a car not being a gun, the similarity is that it's a possession of mine that was stolen, at which point I don't think I'm responsible for it. But to Jerry's point, and your point about heaps of responsibility, there should be a degree of responsibility placed on the individual because (again, to your point), a gun is not a car. If I legally own a gun, but leave visible on the seat of my car (windows down) while I go into the convenience store...
