Um, the price of gasoline today is more based on the price of oil 2 months ago than the price of oil today.
When you hear about oil prices per barrel.. it's "the price for September delivery" or whatever. The oil get sdelivered (at that price) and then refined and delivered to gas stations. It's at least a partial scam, but not for the reason you think.
