All depends where you are at.  If you are right over the epicenter, it will
just shake you from the start.  Big jolt. No warning.

I am 10 miles away.  You feel it coming... slight jolt.. rolling for a few
seconds, then the shockwave hits... big a$$ jolt and  more intense shaking.
Then is dies down.  I had probably 10 seconds of warning.  You knew it was
an earthquake coming when you first felt it.  Whole thing lasts about 30
seconds.
