We must legislate as best we can according to what we understand here on Earth. Killing your child in the name of an afterlife simply cannot be allowed as an acceptable practice. At some point, we must have a reference to create some sort of objectivity. Where some have suggested a morality borne of a "God", i suggest we can use our collective humanity. It is inhumane to let your child die because of a belief in that which is supernatural (beyond nature). Your "belief" is actually born of science, of the natural world, of that which we can perceive and learn to be "factual", to the extent that we can know such. Is it perfect? No, but it's the best we can hope to achieve as mere mortals...and to throw it out because it isn't "perfect", makes no sense. We must distinguish between the knowledge that is obtained from our human senses, and the BELIEF in that which is beyond our senses.
