Your logic and your definitions are inaccurate, Larry

> * Treason: disloyalty or treachery to one's country or its government.
> Treason is any attempt to overthrow the government or impair the
> well-being of a state to which one owes allegiance; the crime of
> giving aid or comfort to the enemies of one's government.

According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/treason

"the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government
of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or
personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family"

No where in that definition (or in yours, actually) does it say
anything about deceiving the citizens of the nation. Treason deals
specifically with the act of trying to subvert one's government... and
while the people elect the government, the people are not the
government proper.

The Presidential oath of office reads: "I do solemnly swear (or
affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the
United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect
and defend the Constitution of the United States." Congressional
members swear a different oath, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States
against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith
and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely,
without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will
well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am
about to enter: So help me God."

So whether you agree with their actions, their reasons/motivations or
even the outcomes, they did not commit treason.
