Why bring me into this. I haven't been involved in this discussion at all.
Unless my memory is completely screwed, I haven't even posted to this
discussion until this one.

>> * Treason: disloyalty or treachery to one's country or its government.
>> Treason is any attempt to overthrow the government or impair the
>> well-being of a state to which one owes allegiance; the crime of
>> giving aid or comfort to the enemies of one's government.
>
>According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/treason
>
>"the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government
>of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or
>personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family"
>
>No where in that definition (or in yours, actually) does it say
>anything about deceiving the citizens of the nation. Treason deals
>specifically with the act of trying to subvert one's government... and
>while the people elect the government, the people are not the
>government proper.

>The Presidential oath of office reads: "I do solemnly swear (or
>affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the

>members swear a different oath, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that
>I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States
>against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith
>and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely,
>without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will
>well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am
>about to enter: So help me God."

>So whether you agree with their actions, their reasons/motivations or
>even the outcomes, they did not commit treason.
