This is local here, so it was covered by local news for days on end during
the whole mess, and the impression I got was that the family "fought" the
offer, holding out for what they knew would be a bigger one. And they got
it, too.

I'm certainly not an insider, so I don't know this to be true, but I do know
that they changed their tune very, very quickly when the second dollar
amount was floated at them, the board (not the shareholders) voting to
accept the offer within just a couple of days.
