But when they're done they are mandated to repair the area.
If we dig for coal we'll hurt the environment. Even if we repair the
environment later, the environmentalists are against the first hand hurting.
Even if not digging for coal will hurt America. So bottom line is that the
environment is worth more than America.

OK, some will say that's a false argument but if it'll take much more
resources to get other forms of energy now (not later, but right away) then
the bottom line of the argument stands. What is the resource cost to America
as a whole for oil? What's the environmental cost to make the money/whatever
to give to our 'allies' for oil? Does this strengthen us in the long run or
just save the environment at our expense? If we're gone, will those who take
our places care about some trees?
