I'm extremely familiar with this and couldn't agree more. There's not just opportunity here, there's an entire industry. It can't be understated. As for the powerful interests, guess who they are? Doctors. To understand or health insurance you have to remember what insurance is: a middle man that creates a win win. For example, car insurance. The driver can't afford the sudden unplanned expense of an accident so they pay a small periodic amount to an insurer who promises to pay in that event. Win, win. insurer gets a steady stream of cash to invest, consumer gets protection against a big unplanned expense. Personal rates go up if risky behavior goes up (tickets) or if the cost of the car goes up. Makes sense. In health insurance most people see to forget this concept. And risk is tough to gauge: is a company insuring a ferrari or a yugo? don't know. Then there's technology. More tests, drugs, and high-tech equip means turning that Yugo into a Lexus. rates go up. So send in the gov't right? Wait. Will the government solve the problem of risky behavior? No. Will the government solve ever greater number of expensive procedures and treatments? I hope not. Will the government solve the administration overhead through their broad experience at it? NO! But finally, doctors. They make shit loads of $$. I know a run-of-the-mill psychiatrist who does drug counseling for local hospitals and clinics. Really just an average doc. Drives a ferrari. Do you think because dr. ferrari has to send his bill to the gov't instead of a private insurer he's going to change his rate? Oh, you say, the government will just force him too. Fine, dr. ferrari says, I quit. He goes into private practice and charges rich folk 10x what he used to to make up for his volume loss. win win there. Point is, gov't healthcare is and would be a disaster. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:272454 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
