I am predicting that Windows suffers a slow death as a monolithic, proprietary OS over the next decade or so. Apple saw Microsoft's problems and went the open source route with BSD under the covers. Linux vendors, especially Ubuntu, are finally getting serious about the desktop, and they already have a good position in servers.
Meanwhile, have you seen Windows Server 2008? A client installed it on one of their servers and asked me to deal with it. So far I'm not very keen on it.
