The people of Missouri knew exactly who would fill Mel Carnahan's place, should they elect him.....his wife. And that is exactly what happened. It sounds fun to say they "elected a dead guy" over Ashcroft.....but in reality, they elected a very lively woman, who had vowed to fulfill the promises of her husband.
