I've been shot at multiple times (in the U.S.) and used a gun twice without
firing it for self defense.  That's not even going into the things I've done
overseas.

The assault weapons ban certainly limits your access to a whole class of
guns, and that's the specific thing that the supreme court found
unconstitutional in Heller. 

I think you're allowing your personal experience to cloud your judgment
here.  You are normally against things that require registration and
limiting the rights of citizens, against the federal government becoming
more intrusive.

I know I'm not going to change your mind here though.
