Back to the story, a mother and child are dead and a grandmother and another child are missing from one of the houses that burned down. The pilot was trying to get to Rose Canyon but had to bail out and missed by a block.

The empty space to the west of the crash site is the site of the high school. If you switch to sat. view on the map you can see just how close the plane came to hitting the school. It came in from the west and must have flown directly over the school before crashing.
