I help setup my cousin's sling box. This is how we did it. We attached his sling box to his cable box via RCA Cables. We then attached his sling box to his network via a CAT5 cable. We installed the player to his computer. Be sure to attach the IR control to the sling box to be able to change channels via your computer. We had to configure the router to open up ports to allow for data flow. We were then able to watch content on his computer. The TV does not have to be on but the cable box does. The TV cannot watch another channel than the computer. But because you attach the IR control you can change channels via the computer. We didn't do WiFi but I would assume it would work. Not sure of the quality through WiFi though. One last note, the source was in NJ but the computer is in NY about 20 miles away and the quality is nearly the same as on the computer in NJ.
