What if we are at the beginning of a serious cooling period in the planet's climate cycle? So we spend billions of dollars tying to keep the planet from heating up, when in fact the planet is cooling down, and we're helping it to cool down faster! That is not a purely hypothetical argument, either, as there are serious climatologists who think we are in fact at the beginning of a cooling period.
