When I came back to Cal in 1972, there were some co-ed dorms - but that was co-ed floors, not co-ed (co-hab) rooms. A couple of guys I talked to who thought it would be "kids in a candy store" found to their surprise it was like being at home and having sisters. Some who had no sisters found it a positive learning experience. I'm not sure how they handled the one big communal bathroom per floor - think that's why living on a co-ed floor was strictly voluntary.
Yeah, the frat houses were something else then too. But the dorms were operated by the university itself. > -----Original Message----- > From: Dan Phillips [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 11:28 AM > To: CF-Community > Subject: RE: College evil > > > When I went in 1992 it was still pretty much the same way. > But the frat > houses...well...no one really paid attention to them. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Braver, Ben [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 2:12 PM > To: CF-Community > Subject: RE: College evil > > > Dan- > > "wtf" is exactly his complaint. > > and don't laugh, young feller - > when I was first in the dorms in 1967, they were strictly male-only or > female-only. > > they had "visiting nights" but you had to keep your door open > at least a > wastebasket width. > and the "dorm mother" and grad assistants patrolled the halls. > > yeah, sure, people snuck their b/f or g/f in, but if you got > caught you > could get in trouble. > mind you, this was at U.C.
