Thanks for the links jim, now do you realize that they show that windows usage is declining, just as i said? and pretty sharply at that and you think that makes your point? my point was that windows use is declining and thank you for showing us that yes that is absolutely true. Wtg jim, you just proved the whole argument, lol
You are living off of what m$ did 10 years ago but today they are not the same and as the old foggies start dying off and the kids of today become more relevant in these stats you will see m$ start to tumble a lot harder even then they are right now. They spent to many years with their thumbs up their ass while everyone passed them by and now everyone has to sit around and wait for the "slow" kid to catch up all the damn time. Kids of today don't think m$ is cool like they did 10-15 years ago, they think it's the ugly old toad that is certainly not cool. As for the thread(ie), it is people like you that let m$ get away with their horse shit and that pisses me off because you actually believe them while it makes our jobs harder. They have no excuse for their browser not be as good and compliant as everyone else's. They always say they are "trying" and that is their problem since everyone else is "doing". It is absolutely bullshit that they can't deliver a web browser on-par with the rest of the world at this point, they need to just give it up if they are going to produce such pathetic crap. And now that they are down in the 60% range hopefully the end will come... http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-share. Aspx? qprid=1&qpdt=1&qpct=4&qptimeframe=m&qpsp=97&qpnp=25 http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/02/03/will-ie8-be-enough-to-save-internet-explorer/ http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2008/06/19/internet-explorer-extinct-by-2013/ http://www.pcworld.com/article/158762/projection_ies_days_of_domination_are_numbered.html "over the past months, our compatibility team has been hard at work, finding and fixing bugs that cause site rendering issues....." ummmm, why don't you just follow the standards like everyone else & while you are at it how many years is it gunna take to get ie to default align to the left like everyone else? i know that is a tall order and would certainly take billions of dollars to accomplish...... But then again they are just going to throw away billions on the xbox... "ms should be congratulated for this. " lol.. For what? for doing what everyone else did 3 years ago... Bullshit, absolute bullshit. The ie team should be taken out and cornholed for their complete lack competency. This is typical m$ (from a lawsuit) "internet explorer ended up with well over 90 percent market share. Once this happened, microsoft stopped browser development; even disbanding its browser team. The product stagnated and then became a prime vector for bad actors to inject spyware onto consumers' computers. There was no meaningful response or innovation from microsoft." http://www.microsoft-watch.Com/content/web_services_browser/mozilla_to_europe_handcuff_microsoft.Html?kc=ewknllin02102009str5 So at the end of the day does m$ do anything to help me as a developer? hell fuck no!! but they sure make it worse even though i don't use their crap. I love it when clients who use windows give me crap over apple, when i give them their bill and tell them "well this 4 hour charge was hacking for ie6 & this 2 hour charge was for hacking ie 7 and now this 2 hour charge was for hacking ie8 & so m$ just added 8 hours onto your bill at $100 an hour, so $800 just to fix their poor ass of an excuse of a browser". It is amazing how that suddenly changes their mind on how they feel about them and suddenly they are asking questions. As you read these what do you see that m$ is actually doing correctly? windows 7 is still just vista, seemingly better but really still a step back since it was vista should have been. And imo i think it is getting a bit weird when every launch of a new windows seemingly is just another step forward in coping os x, they might as well just copy it all in 1 swoop (like they did with windows 1) because it is obvious that that is their intentions. And given the fact that m$ is a copier and not an innovator it just fits their mold and explains why they are always a few years behind everyone else. Since you love vista so much and don't understand why it has a bad rap: 5. Windows vista if there is a blueprint for disaster, it's windows vista. The product was jinxed from the very start. Microsoft promised features that were later dumped. No microsoft competitor could have launched an anti-marketing campaign as effective as windows vista. Lol, classic 3. September 2008 economic collapse Microsoft observed a major dip in software sales, starting in september and becoming a collapse in december. Windows profits were down 13 percent in the fourth quarter; software sales could slow disastrously throughout 2009. Already, microsoft has announced its first layoffs ever. While the global economic crisis hurts everybody, microsoft is in a unique position of misery. Its products are used everywhere. http://www.eweek.com/c/a/windows/microsofts-10-unlucky-breaks/? kc=ewknledp02132009a One of the things people hated about vista was all the versions, so what does m$ do? why of course they do it again... The don't seem to learn from their mistakes very well http://www.denverpost.com/technology/ci_11619831 "as a daily user of mac os x, ubuntu and vista, i'm keenly aware of what works and what doesn't. Mac and linux work. The time is up. Microsoft must abandon vista and move on. It's the company's only chance at redemption." http://www.chewontech.com/2007/09/why-microsoft-must-abandon-vista. Html http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/29/technology/29digi.html?_r=1 A few years ago m$ was among the very top of the most admired companies in the world, how are they today? http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/mostadmired/2008/top20/index.html Youch dropped all the way down to 16!!!! #1 now is.... And then there is the top 10 admired companies for innovation http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fortune/0803/gallery.innovation. Fortune/index. Html Where does m$ rank? oh wait they don't.... And #1 again is............ And then the blue ribbon companies to work for http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fortune/0811/gallery.blueribbon. Fortune/index. Html Well at least m$ is in top 10 here but #1 again is............. So to recap..... Their os: vista will rank as probably as the worst software release disaster in history & the word "vista" sends people screaming in the other direction. So what do they do? they market windows 7 (so what they even got to name it like a mac now?) still as vista when any 3 year old will tell you that they shouldn't be connecting windows 7 to vista in anyway, shape or form but being the marketing geniuses that they are. Their biggest issue with this is that vista pushed a lot of people to os x & linux and they like it, no they love it and now it is snow balling. Sure they are still the dominant os which is what you are trying to say but at the rate windows is falling and os x & linux are rising in a few years m$ won't be ahead anymore. If windoz 7 is anywhere near the disaster that vista is this will get sped up. Even in enterprise as i they won't be waiting for a 3rd release to hopefully upgrade when there are better options now. Their browser: still a disaster, still a piece-o-shit and it's usage is falling at a very alarming rate. It has dropped +15% in last 2 years, so the math says at this pace in the next 2 years it will be under 50% Their gaming box: has cost m$ over 7 billion dollars & all that just to try and stop sony from having the dominant gaming console.... Oops that is almost as bad as them passing up youtube for 1/3 the price that google bought it for.... Oops Their mp3 player: aka the ipod killer... Sales were down 54% in biggest spending quarter of the year, too little too late as always, 3 years barely any sales. Their mobile os: got bitch slapped by the iphone. Just something else they are loosing stats with. If i got to make a call on this i will say that the ipod & the iphone very well might be what what sends apple past m$. In the past the lil blue e pushed m$ to were they went and now the ipod & iphone will propel apple to push m$ aside. It isn't just the physical products but the ipod is this generations sony walkman and is one of the biggest iconic symbols that will mark this period in time. 20 years from now you could mention the ipod or iphone and it will bring up memories of yester year, the only thing m$ has in there is that it will be "do you remember what a piece of crap vista was!!" What has m$ done in the last 5 years that is iconic? an mp3 player that looked like a turd, lol... But seriously, what? i can't think of anything. Silverlight: aka flash killer... Great, they need to be wasting time & money on something that we already have, they should scrap this and put that $$$$ into fixing their horribly broken os & browser. You'd think that they would get a clue when they have to pay sites to use silverlight. Great idea... Lets spend millions on a product just to have to pay people to use it!! what a great idea we are gunna be rich!!!! Their search: again... They are having to resorting to paying people to use it. Kinda sad. Their company: they are laying off people, their profits are shrinking, their net worth is crumbling, their reputation is dimensioning. They need to get rid of balmer before he destroys it all. " if you'd like a response you might look back in the archives to the last time you misrepresented reality. My response hasn't changed." yeah obviously your response, your browser, your os, etc... Are still stuck back in the stone age. The reality is jim that your beloved m$ is having some serious issues and you can blame it on whatever you want but the facts are that they are slipping. If you can't come back and show something to refutes what i am saying then don't weasel out with that excuse. I really don't care if you don't respond jim, you are getting kinda delusional lately as it is. "dave asked, "where is ms now?", adding that he didn't think they were "in a very good place these days". Jim pointed out that their market share would refute that. " Actually jim pointed out that their market share is in fact falling, just as i said it was. Sure they are still ahead by a good margin but it is dwindling fast. 3 years ago they were the biggest, richest company in the world, since then google has trampled them and apple isn't far behind in terms of profit. I think pretty soon a lot of these companies that are so heavily invested in m$ products will take the hit and leave since just about the only way m$ can keep customers is to lock them into their products and with this economy more will go either to opensource or spend more for a better product. The apple model shows that people don't have a problem paying for quality. They are affected by economy as well but it hasn't slowed them much which goes to show that $$ will be spent on premiums products instead of average ones. They are laying people off (after 2 weeks early balmer said they wouldnt), discontinuing products, having to keep xp around because of public outrage which is killing them because xp doesn't have 47 versions and 90% markup so instead they are having the venders charge (i saw dell at $150) to "upgrade" to xp, etc.. And when i say where are they today, these same stats show that they aren't where they were as short as 3 years ago, meaning they are dropping while os x & linux are rising, now don't these facts make my exact point. I just don't see anything that they are doing that is successful at this point(forcing people to use it really isn't selling), most everything they are doing at this point is failing and i fail to see where you think they are doing good besides in your own head. They have the lead in some things but those are falling quickly and aren't going to happen over night but i am sure it is happening a lot faster than m$ would like. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:288966 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
