Do I really need to tell you how this affects the cost of healthcare? Ever hear of preventative medicine?
How do YOU know you are healthy? There are no symptoms associated with blood glucose levels 10-30 points over the norm. There are no indicators that the normal person going thru everyday life can discern of a blood pressure that is a little too high, until it's REALLY high and perhaps too late. There are no indicators of cholesterol levels slightly over the norm, let alone WAY over the norm, unless you have a heart attack because of clogged arteries. 3 big backbone conditions to more serious ailments. So here you go waltzing thru life without a care in the world, you hit your mid-to-late 50's and BAM! Hypertension thru the roof. Cholesterol issues, Blocked arteries and early stages of adult onset diabetes. NOW you have to go to the doctor and he's going to prescribe you medications and all these medications are going to have side effects. these side effects are goinng to make you worse. you might have bad interactions with the drugs. The list goes on and on. There's enough examples on the web for you to read about for weeks. Cost increase reason #1: John Q. Taxpayer can only hope and pray that you have medical coverage. If you don't and you are reliant on medicare, etc .. now we have to pay for your reckless opinion that you don't need an annual physical to make sure just in case. Cost increase reason #2 Now your employer, insurance company, whomever has to pay for increased doctor's visits, costs of drugs, maybe even hospital stays because you had a hard attack. Insurance companies preach preventative medicine every day. It keeps health care costs lower. Period.
