I don't think it will take long. Obama and Pelosi are giving them all the
ammo they need to make a comeback as soon as next year. But the current
strategy is crap and has to go.

One interesting thing. I read this article a few days ago from the Christian
Science Monitor:

They are suggesting that the evangelical movement is going to collapse in
the very near future, which would leave a vacuum in the Republican Party for
new leadership. Tying the party to evangelical issues as a litmus test is a
disaster, and that process needs to be undone.

Michael Steele is expressing basically that viewpoint, and the Evangelicals
are excoriating him for it. And let's be clear, he is a conservative guy and
actually agrees in principle on issues like abortion, but he basically said
the party needs to be more tolerant of opposing viewpoints and more tolerant
in general of individual rights in areas where reasonable people differ. I
hope he manages to make some progress.
