Let me continue that statement with why it bothers me. It bothers me because the US has the capacity to be the shining example in the world. Just watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition for proof of the compassion and generosity that US citizens can display. In the 70's it seemed that the citizens of the US were always protesting and trying to take action to ensure that the government stayed in check and acted with honour. These days though it seems there's an attitude of complacency. That it's somehow un-American to question the government. It's like you've forgotten you shouldn't trust the government.
