Well, 2 reasons Scott:

(1.) What's amazing is that America provides the opportunity for
average people to do great things.  That doesn't exist anywhere else
in the World that I know of.  So America is exceptional in that way,
and it makes her "amazing".

(2.) Just because you're given the opportunity, doesn't mean you can
fulfill it.  For example, HLS is only accepting about 7% of
applicants.

Let's look at the presidency with some rough numbers:

Of all people period, the amount that ascend to the presidency (I'm
including Michelle in that group due to her contribution to the team)
is ... well, let's try this:

I think you need to be 34 or something, but let's say 30 years young.
And you're not going to get elected if you're 80 or older.  So that's
a 50 year period.  In an average 50 year period we've got, let's say,
10 president.  And the population is, let's say, 400M.

So that's a 1 in 40,000,000 shot at getting there.

That an average kid would work so hard, and be so talented, that they
could achieve a 1-in-40 million goal?

Amazing.
