no question there

I don't know. No one in the coalition was prepared to send the numbers of
troops required to effectively control the entire country, even before Iraq.
And we were certainly not prepared to invade Pakistan, where the Taliban and
Al Qaeda fled. So what would have changed?

I disagree completely. Pakistan has been trending this way for decades, the
situation just finally came to a head. What happens when the Taliban take
over the government of Pakistan? Short of a serious military effort by
coalition forces, it is going to happen. The President is going to have to
make some tough decisions in very short order.
