I can't say that the health insurance industry has failed in their
objective... which isn't " health care
coverage for every American and I want it run efficiently and with the
best combination of low cost and high quality "

It's "health care at the highest possible profit for the insurance
companies", which they've succeeded at.. and therein lies the heart of the
problem.

Yes, that is really what I want. Or rather, I want health care
coverage for every American and I want it run efficiently and with the
best combination of low cost and high quality. If the private health
insurance industry can do that, awesome. It has had a significant
amount of time, however, in which to try and do that and has failed
spectacularly.

If the health insurance industry can come up with the best plan that
meets our goals then I'm all for it. I am not for keeping them in
business for the sake of keeping them in business. We do not owe any
industry a profit or continued existence in this country. If the
government can do a better job of meeting the requirements than
private industry, then private industry loses. If private industry can
do it better, then I'm in favor of private industry.

You seem to take it as a given that having government in charge of
something is inherently bad. I do not agree. There is nothing
inherently good or bad about government. I don't care who does it so
long as it gets done. The private health insurance industry is a
spectacularly bad deal for America thus far. There is good reason to
believe that a single payer government plan would be much better. I'm
open to hearing from private insurance on their plans and I'm sure
given their billions of dollars that we will hear extensively.

Let them make their case for survival. If they cannot, then they are
off to the dustbin of history like the rest of the dinosaurs.
