I certainly will read the article, thanks. And perhaps to your chagrin, I have no problems believing that doctors are part of the health care problem in the US. In fact, I've never said otherwise. The bullshit about me supposedly thinking that all doctors are altruistic saints was made out of whole cloth by you and Robert.
Cost containment is going to be part of any health care reform. It is a rough fact of life. Determining how that gets defined and implemented is going to be a tough battle. I've seen doctors that are more than happy to send in a lab request order for a patient that the doctor doesn't really think is necessary just because the doctor wants to make the patient happy by seeming to do something. We need a system that discourages that sort of behavior while not simultaneously preventing useful diagnostic procedures that help successfully ferret out the hard to find edge cases. That's no mean feat. I am glad, however, that you are finally reading something with numbers in it as opposed to hand waving and personal stories. Of course blithely then saying that Doctors are 90% of the problem and not bothering to justify it at all would seem to be some back sliding. Still, one can hope that there might be some rational, fact based debate to be had. Just don't become Narrative Man in this discussion Gruss.
