I will also point out that he was not a government official at the time he
made this speech.

I agree, I don't really want government officials saying (or THINKING) those
things, since by taking their jobs, they have agreed (in my mind) to play
for a neutral team (the US), and leave behind any partisan feelings. Naive,
but that is what I think.

But as a private citizen, speaking to a special interest crowd (and yes,
pandering), I have no problem with it.
