What they did seems > like foreign policy idiocy. IMHO Gates is quite clear in that article that they are switching technologies and strategies and explains the benefits of a such a move. The old, proposed, system doesn't currently work and it wasn't clear when it would work. The new system gets things in place quicker and with more proven technology. Since they aren't dropping the ground-based interceptor system in Alaska, of course research will continue. At first you seemed to be arguing that there was nothing new at all, that it was just slight of hand. Now I can't quite tell if you are trying to argue something different. All it is seeming like is that you have a pathological inability to believe that Obama did something that didn't suck.
