Hi. I brought it over, because Gel's reply was funny. So welcome to
CF-Community. Been here before or did you just find out that this post
was over here and you wanted to check it out? Be careful, there's a lot
of joking and debates, and yelling and screaming and laughing and
muffins.

This is going to be a rambling kind of reply, because I'm sitting here
on the couch, next to hubby, watching TV with one eye and the screen
with the other..

Yes, maybe asking a question about adding time to a date is basic to
you, but sometimes we all need a reminder, especially if it's been 6
months or 3 months or whatever a long amount of time is to anyone, since
they last had to do code like that. And anything with dates is always
screwed up. Can't stand them. More trouble than they are worth.
Especially when you think you have it all figured out. (Pun Benny, we
need a pun here! <Grin>)

Maybe it was easier to ask the list than look it up. Maybe their studio
was screwed for some reason, and only a reinstall would fix the built-in
help (I've had this happen). Maybe the developer lent all his books to
friends, and didn't have to look up the info, maybe he had a hangover
and just couldn't think straight ... Who knows, make up a scenario ...
What he did have at his fingertips was the wonderful beginner to
advanced CF-Talk list, open to all questions no matter what or when.

I was part of the beta test as well for CF 5 ... And it had a lot of
questions about stuff I do not use. But I tried to brush up on as much
as possible, so I was familiar with almost everything before I took it.
I passed, but didn't make Advanced. Probably would have gotten Advanced,
had I been able to take it after Adam Churvis' Boot Camp which I
attended 5 days later. Does the Certificate get me or my company any
more jobs? Nope. Doesn't mean a thing.

You know what it means to me? It's a private thing. It's the fact that I
passed a test on a subject I love and adore. It make me proud to say I
took it and passed. It also gets me a ribbon on my badge at DevCon.
<grin> Oh, and hey, I get to put it in my sig!

But this is my situation. Some recruiters and HR departments thrive on
that stuff. They don't care what the content is, they just know that
there's a test, it is promoted and endorsed by Macromedia, and they want
CF dvelopers that have passed it.

I know that the MCSE's and D's are tough (I've gone through the course
work), but just because someone passes them, doesn't mean they can
remember every single option in setting up Active Directory and getting
Win2K to play well with others.

If you've taken it, why did you take it? What did it mean to you? Are
you thinking about upgrading it when the new CFMX test comes out? I'll
be taking it, just because I want to test my skills again. Will I
remember exactly how to use CFSTOREDPROC when it comes time to use it?
Probably not. I'm forever having to look up tags sometimes, because I
forget the required attributes. But I have my books, my online help and
the wonderful CF-Community and CF-Talk to help me when I need it. And if
they laugh at me, then the cast iron muffin pan comes out! <grin>

I agree with on the questions ... I think they should have a section
where you need to code pieces of apps, etc, demonstrating knowledge
instead of just being a good test taker.

Anyways, back to my beloved code ... And my beloved ... Have a great
weekend Justin!!!! And I hope to see you more often around here.
