LittleBigPlanet is AMAZINGLY GOOD. There was just a major updated allowing
(finally) for over-the-network building and there will soon be a "water"
patch providing... well - water.

The game itself is fun. But there are also nearly a million user-generated
levels (most of which are crap but the sheer number means you'll find more
than enough gems for any two lifetimes of playing). But where it truly
shines is the create mode. The tools are pretty simple, but have emergent
properties in the best possible way. Coupled with the excellent physics
engine you can build amazingly complex things quickly. The level of problem
solving needed to really get what you want is going to be great for any kid.

For example my son wanted to do a level where the player could choose to go
left or right, but not both. There are simple ways to do this (just have
them fall so far that they can't jump out), cheap ways to do it (have the
unselected path burst into flame so it can't be traversed) and truly clever
ways (my son built a fairly elaborate switch out of proximity sensors and
motorized rods).

The latest Katamari game ("Katamari Forever") is a PS3 exclusive - very
good. It's basically a "best of" of the series with levels and music
remixed from the previous games and combined with new material. It's also
budget priced.

My kids like all of the "Lego" games and the whole family loves "Buzz TV"
(quiz game, lots of additional question packs available). "Valkeria
Chronicles" is an amazing action/strategy game that didn't get the love it
deserved. You can't go wrong with either "Uncharted" game or "Infamous" if
you like story-driven adventure and there are three "Ratchet and Clank"
Games (two on disc, one on PSN) which are always good.

But I think you'll find most of the games you're looking for on the PSN
service - put a couple of prepaid PSN cards in their stockings. The
downloadable games are general cheap (and often on sale) and generally high
quality.

Lots of puzzlers - "Critter Crunch", "Elefunk", "Echochrome" and "Cuboid"
are some of the best - lots of family games - "Uno", "High Velocity
Bowling", "Family Game Night" (that one's a little pricey) and "Super Rub a
Dub". Pretty much every genre is represented by at least a couple great
games.

Where PSN really shines is the odd and experimental games tho. Most like
"toys" than "games" really. "Flow", "Flower", "Noby Noby Boy", "PixleJunk
Eden", "Pain" and "Braid".

"Fat Princess" is an amazingly fun online game my son's been playing. My
wife has been splitting her time between "Peggle" and "PixelJunk Monsters"
and my daughter loves "Family Game Night" and "Super Rub a Dub". I've been
playing "Trine" and will probably be sucked into "Dragon Age" this weekend.

I'm "kiwidust" on PSN - feel free to friend/ping me when you get up and
running!
