The good news is a blessing.  The bad news can be dealt with and it
sounds like he is ready for the fight.

Attitude can be the most important healing tool available.  There is a
really good book that has helped me in my fight against cancer called
Mind over Malignance.  You might want to get a copy for him to read.
I am convinced that what I learned from that book is significant part
of the reason I'm still alive and kicked almost four years after my
death sentence.
