Exactly...my wife and I did it so that we would have to the legal benefits
and protections. Otherwise, in our eyes and in the eyes of our gods, we
were already married and have been so for quite some time.

We did a nice outdoor ceremony in our back yard (we have a nice back yard
with a garden area with trellises...very pretty setting in the spring and
summer)

I'll just give you the other side of that........marry her if marriage is
nothing short of a mere formality.

Marrying my then girlfriend changed nothing in our lives. We had a big
ceremony and everyone had a great time, but nothing changed. Marriage should
not change how you feel, how you interact, how you care for each
other.....anything. If marriage changes something, or will change something,
then that would be a red flag.

If truly care for each other, and marriage is nothing more than a ceremony
to emphasize it...then by all means get married. My wife and I have had
nothing but good times....it IS possible to be "happily married" :)

As for hte proposal, I went the traditional route. Nice restaurant, down on
one knee after the main course, before hte dessert. As for the
anxiety...several drinks helped me :)
