Weird analogy, because you're telling him, rather than him witnessing it..
As far as I know, witnessing a crime and not reporting it is in itself
illegal...

But that's not my point..

This Arizona law, is just another band-aid that sooner or later will be
found either unconstitutional or flat illegal. We've yet to deal with the
main issues.

1) How do we prevent these people from coming in illegally in the first
place. We don't build walls, there's an episode of Penn and Teller's
Bullshit that uses the plans for the wall, and it's breached in under five
minutes. We use technology to survey the border and turn the border patrol
into a paramilitary rapid reaction force.

2) Secondly, we deal with the base problem, poverty in Mexico, we help
Mexico do what it needs to do to provide a job with a decent wage for these
people in their own country.

3) it's impossible to round up and deport all 12 million illegals in the US,
so we give them a simple option, you want citizenship, join the military. If
you're in the country illegally and you get picked up for anything..
including a speeding ticket you're out. The checks are done by the the
prison system and/or the precinct office. Takes the immigration checks out
of the hands of the cop on the street. If you're arrested and found to be
illegal, the penalties are tacked on to your sentence and then you're
deported.

Let's see how this works with other crimes:

If the dog catcher is told by me that I id nto report a large amount
of my income on my income taxes, is it OK for him to report it?
If the dog catcher is told by me that I embezzled millions of dollars
from my company, is it OK for him to report it?
If the dog catcher is told by me that I am growing poppy plants in my
basement for my own personal heroine use, is it OK for him to report
it?
If the dog catcher is told by me that I regularly beat my kids to keep
them in line, is it OK for him to report it?
If the dog catcher is told by me that I killed a person, is it OK for
him to report it?

In New Jersey (and I imagine other states) many people (teachers,
nurses, doctors, EMS workers, social workers, etc) are required
required, by law, to report SUSPECTED child abuse. Once reported,
someone from the state or local child services office investigates the
incident. Would the same not be true for immigration status, or do
people really envision the dog catcher rounding up illegal immigrants
and bringing them to jail themselves?
