I have tried Rte 1 as an alternate route to San Francisco. It gets
kinda surrel near Pacifica (Devil's Slide) but it's a shorter stretch.
Anything that brings you to freeeway before SF takes an extra hour.
SInce I am south of Santa Cruz I can also take 101 to 152 and Heckler
Pass, but that's 15mph in places and usually clogged with tailgaters
who drive it daily. Fun road late at night though.
