The problem with doctor's rates is rarely greed on the doctor's part. They're
required to carry malpractice insurance which, thanks to our sue-happy society,
is insanely expensive. They're also required by the insurance companies to
charge a minimum fee for given services otherwise insurance won't pay for it,
but that's another problem entirely.

I know this because a huge chunk of my family is in the medical field. So much
so that I often feel left out of the conversation at family get togethers
because I'm not in a medicine related field. Still I pay attention. Medicare
doesn't come close to paying enough for doctors to make a living after their
expenses. They make a profit on it, sure, but if all they had were medicare
patients they'd be living on ramen noodles.

Not commenting on Obama's package. I still haven't read it. I figure the rest
of my family has enough of an opinion on it that I don't need one.
