Here's a quote from an article on Ha'aretz that says that the commandos were attacked...it specifically state that the were Navy Commandos...elite marine unit... Doesn't sound like a bunch of greenhorn privates...

Still the fact that some of them were severely injured indicates to me that the truth probably lies closer to Israel's version of the events than the other direction, especially if they were IDF special forces.
