A lot depends on the distro, and chosen install methods, but overall,
I think *nix *is* more secure, in general, than Windows, for the
reasons already mentioned.

I don't think Google would be dissing 'Doze if it was just a matter of
locking down the box.

By definition, since most of *nix code is available for *you yourself*
to audit, it's more secure than Windows will ever be, as long as
Windows is closed source.

If you believe what cryptology research has shown, I guess (obscurity
!= security).
