I have spoken to some who I would consider to be a bit on the liberal
side and they have brought up the KKK thing - in a negative way.

I played golf with someone who lives locally who went on and on about
how Byrd was a son of a bitch for joining the Klan, etc, etc, etc. The
conversation drifted to different points and we got to talking about
what we did for a living. He is a construction foreman and, oddly
enough, the job he was currently working on (after being unemployed
for a while) was a project Byrd was responsible for bringing to the
area. I debated whether to bring up this point and chose to just let
it go and try to enjoy the rest of the round.
